Week 2: Generating Ideas for Your Business

Get Started:

Welcome to the second unit in the course. In the first part of this unit, you will learn how to brainstorm to come up with new ideas. In the second part, you will learn about different sources of inspiration. Then, in the third part, you will learn to evaluate your ideas and figure out which ones are good and which ones are not. Coming up with great ideas is such a crucial step in entrepreneurship. In order to have a successful business, it is important to have a good business idea. This is what we want to help you with in this unit. This course isn’t just reading. You will be asked to watch a video, read articles, answer questions, come up with ideas, present in front of your class, and work on an assignment throughout the next couple of weeks.

Generating ideas is extremely crucial so it is important that you give your best effort. We believe that if you work with excellence, you will see results.

God gives us the ability to be creative and make things which have value. Creativity is crucial in entrepreneurship. When starting a business, it is important to come up with innovative ways to solve problems and meet others’ needs. In Exodus 35:30-35, we see how God inspired Bezalel of the tribe of Judah and equipped both him and Oholiab of the tribe of Dan to do great work in building the temple. God desires us to be a blessing to other people and I believe that as you seek Him in starting your business, He will inspire you to create something which pleases Him. In addition to inspiring us, God puts people in our lives who can help us make wise decisions. As you seek to start a business, seek the counsel of wise family members and friends. They will help you to understand which ideas will work and how best to execute them

Key Scriptures:

Exodus 35:30-35, “Then Moses said to the people of Israel, “See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; 31 and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and with all craftsmanship, 32 to devise artistic designs, to work in gold and silver and bronze, 33 in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, for work in every skilled craft. 34 And he has inspired him to teach, both him and Oholiab the son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan. 35 He has filled them with skill to do every sort of work done by an engraver or by a designer or by an embroiderer in blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, or by a weaver—by any sort of workman or skilled designer.”

Application: God gives us the ability to be creative and do His work.

Proverbs 15:22, “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed”

Application: We are to consult with others to refine our ideas and help us implement them successfully.
