Week 5: Customer Service and Sales

Get Started:

Welcome to the fifth unit in the course! In the first section of this module you’ll be learning how to handle customers and achieve the best customer service. In the second section, you’ll learn how to market yourself.

Customer service is an important aspect of running a business. Regardless of the type of contact that you have with customers, whether it is over the phone, face-to-face, in a restaurant or shop, in an office or financial institution, or in the entertainment or tourist industries, good customer service skills help everybody. A happy, satisfied customer is likely to return and/or tell others about the good experiences that they had when dealing with your company – word of mouth recommendations from friends and colleagues are a wonderful way to grow your reputation and business.

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to be a good marketer. But neither is there a one-size-fits-all solution. Every small business is different — the marketing plan and tactics for a mortgage broker are entirely different from those of a computer reseller. However, the process of building a plan, sticking to it and applying the time and resources it needs is the common secret to success in marketing. Being smart with marketing ensures the success of your business by attracting more customers and keeping them coming back. Small business is the backbone of local economies — and you know you need to look after your back! Whether you own a bakery or a finance business, you need no-nonsense marketing strategies to secure a greater share of the market. Empower yourself to apply clever marketing plans and ideas without breaking the bank, or your back.

Pre-quiz: What do you already know?

Take the Week 5 Pre-quiz.

Before we get started with anything else in the unit, we would like you to take a quiz in order to assess how much you already know about customer services and sales. Do not worry if you get many of the answers wrong. This unit will cover all the topics on the quiz. At the end of this week, you will retake the quiz, so we can see if you have learned many of the important topics. Good luck!

This quiz contains 20 questions and should take you 30 minutes to complete.

Now that you have completed the pre-quiz, start on the Day 1 activities.
